The formula wears out after awhile, but thankfully Dog's personality is enough to continue watching. The pattern is always the same: pump up to track a fugitive, capture him or her easily (usually by walking up to the door and knocking), preach a little Gospel, go home to smooch with Beth. Perhaps this is because he gives the same basic speech to all of his captures, but this, too, makes the show slightly less watchable. The only downfall of the show is that sometimes Dog comes across as condescending and preachy.

Since he's been there before, Dog takes extra time to be kind, treating his captures as he would like to be treated. For all the grandstanding and toughness that leads into an arrest, there is just as much sympathy and understanding once they have a subject in custody. The two go about their business as if they're going to war, but the most surprising thing is how much humanity they bring to their job. Beth, who looks like a retired Judas Priest groupie, also provides some spice, with her quick tongue and no-nonsense attitude. Whether he's lifting weights, planning his captures for the day, or tracking a criminal, he's got something to say. If the documentary subjects are not unique and entertaining in their own lives, the show will be uninteresting. Reality television is all about characters. What's most interesting about both Dog and Beth is the odd blend of sweet and tough, heavy metal and gospel, aggression and cool that they bring to the table. With his wife Beth (Dog has been married four times, and has twelve children total), he runs the Da Kine Bail Bonds business in Hawaii, tracking local criminals and serving them to the police when they skip bail.Ī+typical+bust. The Show Dog the Bounty Hunter is a reality show in the style of cops, although it gets a lot more intimate with its main subject, the very intriguing Duane "Dog" Chapman. Still, if you're a newcomer to the world of Dog, or a mega-fan, it's definitely worth a buy. As TV discs go, it's good but not amazing the shows are fun to watch but the lack of extras gives early adopters little new material to entice them. Besides, after viewing the entire season when it aired, episodes tend to get repetitive. This is a good move, because it keeps the season on one disc. A&E decided to bring the series to DVD with a full season, but with select episodes hand-picked by the Dog. Humorous, heartfelt, and at times eye-rollingly preachy, it's almost always an entertaining watch.
Among reality shows, it's one of the more unique on television, bringing to light a world few readers have previously seen. The show is part action, part lecture, and all Dog. The A&E series Dog the Bounty Hunter tracks Chapman's exploits as he busts those who miss court appearances and brings them to justice. Since I can't think of another one, and Dog has his own TV show, he's probably right. In his career, he has arrested over 6,000 criminals and counting, and claims to be the most famous bounty hunter alive. It's his uniform, and his job is unique: Dog is a bounty hunter working for his own bail bonds business. Sporting dark shades, an open leather vest, a deep tan, muscles that would make Randy Savage blush, and crop of hair that could open for Metallica, "Dog" Chapman cuts an imposing figure, indeed.
